101th Session of China Distinguished Materials Scientists Forum——Report by Dou Shixue and Liu Huakun, Academicians of Australian Academy of Engineering

At 10:00 a.m. on September 24th, the 101th session sponsored by China Distinguished Materials Scientists Forum was successfully held in the lecture hall of the library in the University of Science and Technology Beijing. Mr. Dou Shixue, Academician of Australian Academy of Engineering, Director of Institute of Superconductivity and Electronic Materials at University of Wollongong, Honorary President of Ausinan Science & Technology Society, and one of the first batch of overseas accreditation experts appointed by Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Liu Huakun, wife of Mr. Dou Shixue, Academician of Australian Academy of Engineering and Outstanding Professor of Institute of Superconductivity and Electronic Materials at University of Wollongong, were invited to this forum to made an academic report entitled "Multifunctional Synergy for Enhancing Materials Performance". Present at the forum were Academician Ge Changchun, Professor Du Cuiwei, Professor Zhang Dawei from the University of Science and Technology Beijing. The report was presided over by Professor Li Xiaogang from the Institute of Advanced Materials and Technology.

Before the report, Professor Li Xiaogang introduced the scientific research direction and achievements of Academician Dou, one of the world's most influential scientists in the field of superconductivity and energy storage materials, and his wife Academician Liu Huakun. The couple has made great contributions in the field of superconductivity technology and application.

Professor Dou Shixue started by introducing the idea and growth track of his research team, as well as the main research direction and achievements in recent years. Then, taking the specific individual research results of his research team members as examples, he elaborated the research and innovation of various researchers in lithium-ion battery, sodium ion battery, lithium sulfur battery, solar cell, interface engineering, defect engineering, superconducting materials and other aspects. In his summary, Professor Dou highlighted the importance of transforming scientific research achievements into industrial applications. He believes although many technologies developed by the scientific research team have been put into practical use, a lot of efforts are still needed to transform more ideas and technologies into industrial scale application. In this regard, their Institute of Electronics and Superconducting Materials is collaborating with industrial partners to build a comprehensive industrial park in Australia to promote the application of energy materials.

After the report, the students exchanged views in terms of surface engineering, defect engineering and electrochemistry with this couple, who gave detailed answers to the questions raised by the teachers and students. Everyone thinks that they benefit a lot from the couple's wonderful report and answers which provide new ideas to their scientific research.

Academician Ge Changchun presented Professor Liu Huakun with a commemorative forum plaque for Chinese masters, hoping that University of Science and Technology Beijing can make closer exchanges with Institute of Superconductivity and Electronic Materials at University of Wollongong in the future.
